Ani Performs "November 4, 2008"

She played this last night at the concert at the Trustees Theatre. One of a few times that I was just barely holding back tears. It was a terrific show. I just wish it had been promoted better. I hadn't heard about it until a week before, when I saw a Facebook Ad!
The opening act was Toshi Reagon, a fierce singer/songwriter who sang with her guitar only. I had a terrific time, and I was home just after midnight.

The topic is: What is your top pro-choice hope for President Obama and/or the new Congress?
And the President just took a terrific first step toward my hope by affirming his commitment to defending Roe v. Wade.
There is more to be done, but if he stands by the statement he made today, we are well on our way. I want the global gag rule gone, a process that seems to have been started. I want a woman in South Dakota to have the same rights and bodily autonomy as a woman in Chicago. And I want both of those women to have the same rights and bodily autonomy as any man.
I hope to return to this post later. This is all I have time for now.

Obama/Biden(?) 08

CNN is reporting that Joe Biden will be announced tomorrow as Barack Obama's running mate. As a former Biden supporter and current Obama supporter, I suppose I'm pleased. It does feel terribly anti-climactic, however. After all this build-up, I was really beginning to hope Obama would pick Clinton. Well, if he was going for experience, Biden's one of the best. That man's been in the senate my entire life. No, really.

Obama has 15 full-time paid staffers who have been in Georgia for over a month. They also have had staff in North Carolina and Virginia and have been "literally moving in dozens of people every week to all three states," said Jon Carson, Obama's national field director. They also expect to have staff in Mississippi, Arkansas and Louisiana before the end of the month. "It's very hard to sit here right now to say what's going to happen in November... Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, Montana, North Dakota, Missouri - which of those is going to be most winnable? So our campaign is taking the approach of casting a wide net."

They ain't just whistlin' Dixie! I participated in a voter registration drive Saturday, and there's an organizational meeting tonight, both in Brunswick. Wouldn't it be amazing if I had to change the name of the blog to Blue in Bluesville!?! Yeah, I know, keep dreaming, but I'm going to keep at it with my teaspoons.

At what temperature does low country boil?

So, I've been busy lately. I'm still determined to post about the events of the last week or so, even if I am a little late. Last Saturday (September 8) I joined other Brunswick readers at the Kick off event for the Big Read. It was a low country boil, and local and national big wigs were there. Cap Fendig made a proclamation on behalf of the county commissioners. Mayor Bryan Thompson made a proclamation on behalf of the city. Superintendent of Schools Michael Bull was there dressed as Catcher in the Rye. I came as the happy Medium from A Wrinkle in Time. The NEA even sent a representative from Washington to little old Brunswick. Please enjoy the following photos:

And, yes, I do have a bit of a crush on Obama, but I still love Joe Biden and John Edwards, too. That'd be some boy band, huh?
